This is just like the perfect summation. I was just trying to explain my Norman fixation to my friend Becky (her celeb crush is Paul Walker, so there you go) and I just couldn’t verbalize it like this. It was my turn to pick the movies we watched & my choices today for the triple feature we do once a month were: “Beat,” “Until The Night” and “A Crime.” All having newly arrived in my mail this morning, so I had to instantly view them. In all three, Norman plays a man that simply draws people, inspiring lust, obsession and it tends to end badly. Becky’s finding all of that a bit disbelieving ‘cause “Look at him!” she tacks on insults and I just *dreamy sigh* look at him. All I could say is, “Whatever he has, he should bottle and sell it, because the world needs some.”
Norman Reedus.
This man shouldn’t be considered all that attractive. He has a haggard look to him, as if he is very tired. As if sleep isn’t something he can get most nights.
Now, before you get on my case for this, because I know a good many will, hear me out. This man isn’t attractive based on popular standards, not in the least. He isn’t over six feet tall. He doesn’t sport a six pack. His hair lacks any form of styling. He’s over forty years old, for christ’s sake. And yet he inspires an almost uncalled-for love in his viewers. Why?
To me, it’s quite simple. He may not be beautiful, but Norman Reedus has eyes that God never gave a man. Eyes that look at you once, and are never quite forgotten. A face that is more compelling than anyone using surgery or work could hope to achieve. Shoulders so broad, they look as if they span doorways. Hands that don’t look manicured, but instead, worked and worn and strong.
And don’t get me started on his talent as an actor. You’ve all seen The Boondock Saints and The Walking Dead; you know what I mean.
No, there isn’t a lot about Norman Reedus that, upon inspection, would be considered hot or sexy. He is a flawed man, as any average joe is. The difference is that he exudes a sort of virility I doubt can be found in men these days. A presence that is neither overwhelming, nor subtle. Simply put, he’s an anomaly. And hey, bless him for it, because men just aren’t built like that these days, and it’s good to see that they aren’t extinct. I wish him and his family all the best, and am proud to say I’ve had the privilege of viewing his work.
